AvoDerm (Chicken & Rice)

Avoderm would make for a great dog food but not a really good cat food based on its ingredients. By weight the main ingredient at the top of the list is chicken meal and its next animal protein in the list is Herring meal at 9th place.

This product much like Authority Harvest Baked Chicken contains none of the usual by-products such as chicken innards and does not contain any corn, wheat or soy. It is a much better product that Authority Harvest.

The grain being used in this product is rice which is good for digestion with animals but yes rice bran is not nutritionally speaking very good.

AvoDerm (Chicken Meal & Brown Rice)I have noted before on this website about being careful about deception in adverting and how products are split their ingredients. The use of 2nd and 3rd in weight of these ingredients are (Ground Whole Brown Rice+ Ground Whole Rice). Since we don’t know the ingredients by exact weight this could simply be a rice with chicken added. The advertising concept is explained here. The use of avocado is strange for a dog food and I have never heard of any dog food adding it as part of their ingredients. It does of course come with many vitamins and goof fatty acids with the flaxseed also included as a good source of fiber and fat. The food is rather impressive and it is what I would call a Category 1 dog food. One that is well worth the money spent on it.

Good Points:

Chicken meal as a primary ingredient is good and there are none of the usual corn and wheat added. There are also two sources of animal protein however as stated I have my reservations about the addition of rice as the second and third place by weight. Overall still an excellent product.
