Lots of marketing went into this product and they make this known on their website that they set-out to create a great product. Yes they have but… There are no animal by-products such as what other dog foods have. Some products such as Bi-Jac Select which is by-products door to door. Black Gold Ultimate contains none of the cheap low end protein sources.
The but in the opening sentence is that the second large ingredient by weight is brewers rice (aka broken rice). That by itself is a by-product of the milling process and should not makeup such a huge percentage of the ingredients. It has no real nutritional value but it is a cheap form of carbohydrate in pet food diets and is normally used as a filler not one of its primary ingredients. This dog-food is not a bad product but with such a large amount of brewers rice I would rate this as an average dog food.
Then again it is still better than the Walmart products or dog food such as Alpo Premium Cuts. If you are looking for better dog foods then see the side my listing of Rating 1 foods which are not perfect but have a much better balance and value for money than the average products on offer.
If you are looking for something better then consider the AvoDerm products on offer and listed on this website as well.
is its main ingredient and this is very good. It also contains fish meal which is another source of animal protein however the large amount of broken rice being used weakens the sale for me.
