Iams (Lamb & Rice)

Iams Lamb and Rice starts off well with this product by making the main ingredient Lamb meal which is an excellent source of protein. From there is is all downhill with brewers rice and corn meal which offer very little to dogs in terms of nutrition. Considering the price of this product I am a bit surprised to see a by-product (chicken by-products) added in the mix.

One would have thought that for this price of this product you would cut down on the by-products and have far less grains in the diet. for the price range you might want to take a look at say Honest Kitchen – Zeal Recipe as an option.

They have added a bit of egg and fish meal to balance off the food. Its simply not a premium food and one should pay the price that one does for it. Yes it much better than most low cost products on the market but it could have been better had the price been lower and competing in the more lower end of the market. If you are looking for something better consider Nutro Ultra as a dog food.

Good Points:

Overall the product is not half bad if the price came down and it was more in line with where it belongs – middle of the range for dog food. Its main protein source is good being lamb meal and added fish meal for fatty acids. The rest is simply grains to complete the package. I would personally give it a 2 out of 5 considering its cost as its costs the same as Blue Wilderness.
